In a significant development, three members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.

The lawmakers, all representing constituencies in Katsina State, announced their decision in separate letters read during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
The defecting lawmakers are Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai (Bakori/Danja), Aliyu Illiyasu (Safana/Butsari), and Salisu Yusuf Majigiri (Mashi/Dushi). In their letters, they cited irreconcilable differences within the PDP as the reason for their decision.

Dabai specifically lamented that the PDP has been plagued by crisis since 2022, with all efforts to resolve the disputes proving futile.
The defection is part of a larger trend of crossovers in the House of Representatives, with the APC gaining strength at the expense of opposition parties. Recently, six lawmakers from Delta State defected from the PDP to the APC, while two Labour Party lawmakers from Enugu State joined the PDP.
