NUAS Executive Pays Courtesy Visit to Dimgba— Seeks Support for Students’ Development

The Executive members of the National Union of Asa Students (NUAS) paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC),Chief Dr. Eruba Dimgba in his office,at the Abia State Project Office,Okeikpe, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, was marked by appreciation, commendation, and a series of constructive discussions on youth development and educational support for Asa students.

Leading the delegation, the Apex President of NUAS, Mr. Martins Nnaemeka, expressed gratitude to Chief Dimgba for the numerous developmental initiatives that have positively impacted the Asa community and Abia State at large.

He recalled that Chief Dimgba was one of the founding fathers of NUAS, describing him as a man who has consistently shown commitment to the welfare of others.

Mr. Nnaemeka presented a list of requests on behalf of the students, including bursary support for Asa students in tertiary institutions, funds for textbooks and exercise books for secondary school students, and financial assistance for an upcoming skill acquisition program targeting undergraduates across universities in Abia State.

The delegation also sought the Commissioner’s partnership and sponsorship for the forthcoming NUAS Day celebration.

In his response,Chief Dimgba commended the students for their boldness, intelligence, and proactive engagement, noting that such leadership qualities reflect a promising future for Asa land.

He clarified that while the NDDC does not offer bursaries, it provides foreign and local scholarship opportunities, which Asa students are encouraged to apply for whenever new batches are announced.

Dr.Dimgba emphasized the importance of communication, urging the students to always inform his office whenever they apply, as he may not be aware otherwise.

The NDDC representative reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Asa and Abia State benefit fully from all NDDC programs, citing the ongoing Women Empowerment Programme currently holding at Lenzor Hotels as an example of the Commission’s inclusive development efforts.

Chief Dimgba further encouraged the student leaders to engage their peers in productive activities that promote discipline and discourage social vices such as drug abuse and crime.

He praised their plans to organize skill acquisition programs, mentioning that NDDC have just trained several youths in fashion design, who were each empowered with a generator, sewing machine, and ₦250,000 to support theirs businesses adding that Asa people were party of the program.

He assured the NUAS delegation of his financial support and promised to ensure that Asa students are included in future NDDC programs and empowerment schemes through their recognized leadership structure.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Dimgba reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of Asa and Abia State diligently, regardless of differing opinions, stressing that true leadership is about impact and taking of constructive criticism and not popularity alone
