The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has flagged off a solar street light project in Ohanku Ndoki Community, Ukwa East, Abia State.

The project, which was launched on November 29, 2024, is expected to provide illumination for the residents from 6pm and boost economic development in the community.

According to Prince Azubuike Ubani, Director in Abia State Office, the Ohanku Solar Street Light project is a priority for the NDDC, given the community’s lack of solar street lights. He urged the community to cooperate with the NDDC and the contractor to ensure the project’s success.

The Abia representative on the Board of NDDC, Chief Dr. Eruba Dimgba who represented the Commission at the launch, emphasized that the project is part of the NDDC’s broader efforts to bring development and promote human capital development in the Niger Delta region.

Chief Dimgba noted that the NDDC is committed to working with communities and stakeholders to drive development and improve living standards of the people and also highlighted the importance of protecting the project and supporting the contractor to ensure timely completion.

He assured the community that the NDDC would return to the community for more projects if the solar street light project is successfully implemented.

The contractor pledged to carry out the project according to the scope and standards set by the NDDC, while assuring the community that he will give them the best of service provided there is an enabling environment.

The launch of the Ohanku Solar Street Light project is a significant milestone in the NDDC’s efforts to develop the Niger Delta region.

As the Commission continues to work with communities and stakeholders, it is clear that the NDDC is committed to driving development and improving living standards in the region.
