The opening of the Asa Ugbo Bekee waterfront is expected to further boost the economic development of Asa, according to Mr. Emmanuel Friday Chinonyere, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Oborhia Village in Ukwa West, Abia State.

Mr. Chinonyere made this statement during a visit to the office of Chief Dr. Eruba Dimgba, Abia State Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

He emphasized that the development of the waterfront will create more job opportunities for the people of Asa.
The CDC Chairman explained that the Asa Ugbo Bekee River leads to Rivers State, Akwa Ibom State, and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean, making it an ideal location for a seaport.

He noted that fishermen in the area already use local boats for fish farming, highlighting the potential for economic growth.
Chief Dr. Eruba Dimgba praised the proactive leadership of Mr. Chinonyere and the stakeholders who accompanied him on the visit. He assured them that he would take their proposal to the management of NDDC, expressing confidence that the Board would support the idea.
The NDDC has shown interest in projects that promote regional development, and the Asa Ugbo Bekee waterfront project is expected to receive a positive response from the Board.
With the support of stakeholders and the NDDC, the project is poised to drive economic growth and improve the lives of the people of Asa.
